Bill C-6: Stacking The Deck - A Classic Strategy
Here yet again is the classic strategy used over and over to deal with awkward issues pertaining to witnesses, scientific evidence etc. that comes in the way of predetermined policy in favour of the industry. This strategy is currently being used not only for Bill C-6 but also such issues as water fluoridation (more on this in another post) and vaccination among others...
The 3 key witnesses (Trueman Tuck, Drs David Roland and Shiv Chopra) germane to Bill C-6 are systematically being blocked from speaking.
The government regulatory agencies "are essentially public relations and diversionary arrangements to control and placate the masses. Contrary to perceptions, regulatory bodies are essential to protect the industry, consumer protection is incidental! Regulations favourable to industry are created in the name of health and safety such as testing their wares on animals etc. which often have no relations to human health and safety. Once passed the companies are then off the hook, the tax payer and the injured party/s are left holding the bag for subsequent problems and/or complications.... Agencies themselves, by design of course, are unaccountable and serve as a shield for the industry."

We need to expose these shenanigans and bring then to the attention of the Senate and ask for accountability of these actions....

--------------------Hello Team,
Interesting times – Senate is not going to allow David and I to witness. I suspect that "THEY" are afraid of the uncontrollable on record evidence opposing Bill C-6.
See David's excellent comments below.
Thanks.TrueMan

Please pass on to all who received rejection letters:
Senator Joseph Day is the official critic of Bill C-6 and thus could be our most important ally in the senate. He is most concerned that (a) the Social Affairs Committee was not given a list of those witnesses who have been excluded from testifying, (b) all of the witnesses thus far have discussed only policy considerations, and (c) no one has yet challenged the deeper issue of C-6's unconstitutionality.
It is obvious from the 800+ letters of protest that each senator has received that the opponents of C-6 far outnumber its proponents. Yet, only those in favour of the bill have thus far been allowed to testify. If things continue as they are, Shawn Buckley will be the only opponent of the bill testifying.
The hearings began with testimony from Health Canada officials who basically said, "Trust us". Then came about 15 witnesses in favour of C-6. Shawn is the second last witness to be heard. Very last to testify is the Health Minister herself, whose words will be the freshest in the minds of the Committee. It is absolutely certain that Shawn will demonstrate the unlawfulness of C-6 and present our position admirably. The outcome, however, is not certain. No matter how brilliant a lawyer's case may be presented, Judges and juries do not always make the best decisions. We need to support Shawn by making sure that his is not a lone voice in the wilderness.
The deck is stacked. And we have two trump cards:- Highest trump card is the fact that C-6 is unlawful. We need to get to play this card as many times as we can.
- Another trump card is Senator Day's influence as official critic of C-6. He can help us play our #1 card.
There is a steering committee that decides which witnesses appear before the Social Affairs Committee. Senator Day can make recommendations to this steering committee; and if they do not heed his recommendations (as official critic of C-6), there could be serious repercussions for them afterward.
We need to help Senator Day to help us. If you have been excluded as a witness, let him know. Send him a fax: (613) 992-1175 and follow up by telephone: (613) 992-1175. Senator Day selectively returns phone calls about C-6. It is his highest priority.
Keli Hogan has invited us to submit briefs to the Committee. If you are going to do this, please also send a copy to EVERY senator and especially to Senator Day at dayja@sen.parl.gc.ca with a covering personal letter to him. Then follow up by phone to make sure he received it.
We have to give Senator Day all of the ammunition he needs to expose that the game is rigged. He needs to know the names of witnesses that have been excluded, and he needs copies of our briefs. Right now this man is one of the busiest human beings on our planet, so to get his attention you need to make contact by telephone. His staff is very receptive.
If you have been excluded from testifying, please also let me know – and give me the name of the group (if any) that you represent. Next time I am talking to Senator Day, I will ask him if he has received your letters/briefs and ask what he is able to do about them.
All the best,
- David

Dear Dr. Rowland,
Thank you for your email of September 14, 2009 regarding Bill C-6: An Act respecting the safety of consumer products.
At this time, the committee is unable to invite you to submit your presentation personally because of time constraints. A number of factors are taken into consideration in the selection of witnesses. The Steering Committee is careful to balance the amount of time allotted to all witnesses addressing diverse issues relevant to the Committee's study. Because of the high number of requests it receives, the Committee is, unfortunately, not able to hear from everybody who requests to be heard however the committee would invite you to submit a written brief outlining your views on Bill C-6 for their consideration.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Should you require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Keli Hogan
