Health Freedom March in London scheduled for 15 June
The Health Freedom Movement in the UK has scheduled a protest against the implementation of restrictive European legislation on food supplements. The European Community has issued a directive, which will make it difficult in the future to find many of today's popular supplements.
British supporters of natural health alternatives will be meeting in London on 15 June and a similar protest is planned in Paris. There may also be a protest action in Sweden on the same day.
The new European restrictions, which have to be transformed into national law in the member countries by July 2003, are heavily contested by consumers and activists, who see in them an advance of pharmaceutically inspired control over their health and an unjustified limitation of their health choices.
PUT ON THOSE MARCHING BOOTS: We're protesting to keep our health freedoms
Yes, we know June 15 is Father's Day-but it is also the day when all good people join us on our march for health freedom.
As you probably know by now, the EU is planning to remove high-dose vitamins and supplements, along with natural remedies that contain herbal extracts, in the next couple of years. And more will follow until you will have no health choice left, other than a prescription drug (well, fancy that).
We're not taking this lying down. We are on the march to show our feelings to UK MPs who happen to be voting on ratification of the first of the directives two weeks later.
But the march has to be a success, which is why we need you (how about a Father's Day dinner instead of the usual lunch?)
Bring something that can make a noise; better yet, come in fancy dress.
We'll see you at the north end of Hyde Park (Marble Arch end, near Speakers' Corner) from 11am. We set off for Trafalgar Square at noon.
