Is soy formula a recipe for disaster?
As recently reported in the press, a soy baby formula manufactured in Germany and imported into Israel has been associated with illness and deaths in the infants who were fed with it. The obvious reason seems to be a failure of the manufacturer to include vitamin B 1 in the formula.
However, the incident points towards a larger problem of soy-based products. There are several naturally occurring ingredients in soy that are not compatible with human health. If you see this article by Dr. Mercola, and follow his links, you will get an idea of what the dangers are.
Soy has recently been shown to decrease normal sexual behaviour (in laboratory animals) and it contains a number of natural toxins and anti-nutrients.
I find it very interesting and more than a little disturbing that soy seems to
extract from the soil and concentrate both alluminium and manganese, metals which can disturb the electrochemical properties of human tissues. Fluoride seems to worsen the problem of manganese toxicity.
In this connection, it is revealing to see that manganese has also been implicated in a possible causative connection with bovine spongiform encephalopathy and the related Creutzfeld Jacob Disease in humans.
