Happy Christmas to Joyce Ann Hafford, From All of Us
Celia Farber has done something wonderful in posting this pageJoyce Ann Hafford died about five weeks into a government drug trial, with the drug Nevirapine. She was put on the drug because she is a black woman living in the South, and is thus, considered to be in the “high risk” category for the blanket-diagnosis we call “AIDS.”
House & Senate Both Pass Adverse Event Reports’ (AER) Bill
In the wee, wee, wee hours of the weekend the House staged their own parliamentary, paramilitary maneuver for the war of drugs against this nation. A vote was taken on not voting on this law to allow it to pass without a vote. This ‘Suspension of the Rules’ parlor trick requires a 2/3 majority vote. There are 435 representatives so 290 votes would be required for this hostile takeover of consumer freedom to take effect.
Statins and Vitamin D Deficiency
Without any sun exposure you need about 4,000 units of vitamin D a day. In the absence of other supplements you would need 40 glasses of milk or ten multi-vitamin capsules daily to supply your vitamin D needs. Most of us make about 20,000 units of vitamin D after 20 minutes of summer sun due to UVB conversion of cholesterol. Numerous studies document that the majority of our society falls short of meeting either their dietary of UVB conversion needs for vitamin D.Now consider the impact of statin drugs on a society already overburdened with an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency. Cholesterol must be available in our bodies in amounts sufficient to allow UVB conversion to vitamin D. We are all genetically blessed with a “natural level” of cholesterol. What is natural for one person may be completely inadequate for another. Into this heterogenous pool we dump statins indiscriminately in a misguided attempt to bring everyone’s natural level of cholesterol down to some artificially low level.

Diabetes breakthrough
"Then we had the biggest shock of our lives," Dr. Dosch said. Almost immediately, the islets began producing insulin normally "It was a shock - really out of left field, because nothing in the literature was saying anything about this."The "paradigm-changing" study opens "a novel, exciting door to address one of the diseases with large societal impact," said Dr. Christian Stohler, a leading U.S. pain specialist and dean of dentistry at the University of Maryland, who has reviewed the work.

Fat people harbour 'fat' microbes
Researchers have shown that the intestines of obese people are swimming with a different make-up of microbes compared with those of slim people. And this microbial population could actually be helping them gain weight: bugs taken from an obese mouse and transplanted into another animal's intestine made the animals gain more fat than normal.
Black Cohosh - They've got me confused
Just barely a few days ago, a study 'proved' that black cohosh, a herb used to alleviate menopausal symptoms, is all but ineffective, implying that hormone replacement therapy, although terribly dangerous, may be the only option for aging women. But now, another study comes out that actually found the mechanism by which black cohosh influences the heat control center of the body, which goes to show that pharmaceutical studies are best taken with a large grain of salt.
Eli Lilly - Zyprexa maker minimized possible risks
Drugmaker Eli Lilly has spent a decade downplaying serious health risks of Zyprexa, its best-selling medication for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, according to internal documents obtained by The New York Times
THE RITALIN KIDS GROW UP
Many of the 'ADD generation' say no to meds
Newly minted grown-ups are carrying out a massive natural experiment by choosing to do without the drugs that profoundly affected their experience of childhood.
Are Your Painkillers Actually Killing You?
On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration proposed stronger warning labels for the common class of pain relievers known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs. The group includes acetaminophen, commonly known by the brand name Tylenol, as well as ibuprofen and aspirin ... the FDA estimates that 200,000 Americans are hospitalized every year because of overdoses and side effects of normal doses of these drugs, and they are the cause of thousands of deaths per year.
Female Troubles for Wildlife Raise Human Worries
"At the rate this pollution is going, we will likely have population decreases in many wildlife species, especially amphibians and fish that are more susceptible to toxins because their skin is constantly exposed to these chemicals in an aquatic environment," says Sarah Janssen, a science fellow at the New York-based Natural Resources Defense Council. "These animals serve as canaries in the coal mine for human females, teaching us how synthetic chemicals might affect our nervous system development, immune function, fertility and other health outcomes."
Expert witness says HIV 'doesn't exist'
Ms Papadopulos-Eleopulos, a medical engineer from Royal Perth Hospital, dismissed recent World Health Organisation and United Nations reports that outline the world AIDS epidemic. Ms Papadopulos-Eleopulos said there were no published reports that conclude HIV exists or could be linked to AIDS. The 5000 people who signed the Durban Declaration in 2000, which says AIDS was an epidemic in Africa, linked to HIV and spread by sexual contact, were backed by politicians, not scientists, she said.
Drug Makers Accused Of Misleading Health Dept.
"The check originated as an unrestricted educational grant from Janssen to the Harrisburg State Hospital here in Pennsylvania," Allen Jones said. "However, the check was deposited to an off the books account and a separate check written out to Shon in the exact amount of the unrestricted educational grant. And while they called it an unrestricted grant, the supporting documentation clearly, clearly established that the purpose of the monies was to bring Shon to Pennsylvania to sell the TMAP program to Pennsylvanian officials."
Bush "Developing Illegal Bioterror Weapons" for Offensive Use
In violation of the US Code and international law, the Bush administration is spending more money (in inflation-adjusted dollars) to develop illegal, offensive germ warfare than the $2 billion spent in World War II on the Manhattan Project to make the atomic bomb. So says Francis Boyle, the professor of international law who drafted the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989 enacted by Congress. He states the Pentagon "is now gearing up to fight and 'win' biological warfare" pursuant to two Bush national strategy directives adopted "without public knowledge and review" in 2002.
Angels Don't Play This HAARP
This interesting Google video describes a massive radio-transmitter in Alaska operated by the Department of Defense known as the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP). In this video, you will visit the installation and hear government officials explain how it can be used as a powerful weapon directed against any point on the globe, how it can be used for modifying the weather, and how safe and wonderful it is. But you will also hear from experts – including scientists who designed the system – that it can be used to alter human brainwaves to cause whole populations to become confused, passive, or ill.
