Ancient Human Metropolis Found in Africa
Something amazing has been discovered in an area of South Africa, about 150 miles inland, west of the port of Maputo. It is the remains of a huge metropolis that measures, in conservative estimates, about 1500 square miles. It's part of an even larger community that is about 10,000 square miles and appears to have been constructed -- are you ready -- from 160,000 to 200,000 BCE!
British Medical Journal’s editor has been forced into an embarrassing admission that the journal should have disclosed connections with MMR manufacturers Merck and GSK when publishing attacks on the integrity of Andrew Wakefield in January.
Godlee’s admission, “We did not declare these competing interests because it did not occur to us to do so”, underlines the complacence, and even arrogance, of large journals that think they are above having interests.
Fraudulent Medical Research Could Affect Your DiagnosisThe press has led us to believe that the recall of a medical research paper represents a rare, media-worthy event. Case in point: the week-long blitz announcing the retraction of a single, disputed paper, published in The Lancet in 1998. By comparison, the retraction of more than 100 papers by two medical researchers didn't even make the evening news. The enormity of that recall rattled the entire subspecialty of anesthesiology and pain management. The identification of many more recalled papers exposes the extent of scientific misconduct and the failure of peer review across the entire medical industry.
Diet May Help ADHD Kids More Than DrugsKids with ADHD can be restless and difficult to handle. Many of them are treated with drugs, but a new study says food may be the key. Published in The Lancet journal, the study suggests that with a very restrictive diet, kids with ADHD could experience a significant reduction in symptoms.
Vitamin D conspiracy leads straight to Big PharmaYou've probably heard about the bad rap vitamin D has been getting lately. The argument goes something like this...the vitamin D crisis isn't as bad as we thought. You probably don't need as much of it as we thought. But it's a free country. So go ahead and take 400 IU of it per day, if you want. That's more than enough. Just don't go over 4,000 IU per day. "High doses" like that can increase your risk for "harm"
These new guidelines come from the U.S. Institute of Medicine (or IOM), a powerful non-profit agency that advises the nation of matters of health. But here's the problem: Their report is pure propaganda.
Video: Cancer cured but Pharma has no interestDr Evangelos Michelakis of the University of Alberta finds that a commonly available drug - DCA or dichloroacetic acid - reduced tumor size in mice in a matter of weeks. Studies are needed but pharmaceutical companies aren't interested.
California regulators accuse Bristol-Myers Squibb of fraud, kickbacksCalifornia regulators are taking aim at giant drug maker Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., accusing it of bribing doctors and pharmacists to use its products by offering thousands of cash kickbacks, gifts and "happy hours" with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The case against the drug company was developed with the help of former Lakers player Lucius Allen and his wife, Eve, who worked for Bristol-Myers and provided access to the basketball team, according to a lawsuit made public Friday. Doctors and family members were invited to Lakers Dream Camps arranged by the company, the lawsuit said.
Mentally ill die, on average, 25 years earlier than the general population…...suicide accounts for 30% of excess mortality [in the population suffering from “serious mental illness”], but 60% of premature deaths are due to other causes such as cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, obesity, and smoking – causes which are in some ways preventable...
It's the meds ... their "side effcts" are deadly.
UK: Locked up and sedated: Dementia patients are denied basic rightsA highly critical study warns that hospitals and care homes are breaking the law by ‘restraining’ the elderly without authority – locking them in rooms overnight, sedating them or even binding them to beds and chairs.
China: ADHD drug Strattera fraudulently marketed by Eli LillyAccording to Lilly's U.S. web site, an increased risk of suicide is the most important thing patients should know about Strattera. Lilly's web site in China says nothing about this risk; patients are told nothing about any Strattera side effects at all. Chinese readers are warned instead about the dangers of ADHD (deliquency, substance abuse, unemployment, depression and other serious problems, both personal and social) unless treated with medication.
Lilly boasts that Strattera is the first "FDA-approved non-stimulant to treat ADHD" but fails to mention an FDA-required black box warning for Strattera.
Lilly Pulls Down Strattera Web Site In ChinaIn removing the Chinese site, however, Lilly points specifically to differing regulations among countries as a reason for disseminating different info. Nonetheless, this raises a question about responsibility to patients, irrespective of the country in which they reside.
USA: Shock tactics in school - Treatment or torture?Residents at the school carry small rucksacks, trailing wires that lead under their clothes and end in electrodes attached to their skin. Each rucksack contains a box, operated by staff members via remote control. When a button on the controller is pressed, a signal is sent generating a charge that delivers an electric shock to the skin. The teachers regularly inflict electric shocks on students, some as young as eight, zapping them for up to two seconds on their legs, arms or stomach.
Australia: Risk of fits prompts bans of four flu jabsFor the first time, doctors have been "asked", although not required, to notify the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register every time they vaccinate a child up to the age of seven years for the flu. Professor Bishop has also "encouraged" doctors to report any side-effects to the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Peter Collignon, professor of infectious diseases at the Australian National University, said yesterday children without underlying health problems should skip the flu jab this year.
India: 5 infants die after measles vaccinationFive infants, around 10-months-old, died after being vaccinated for measles at Gandhidhams Rambaugh Hospital in Bhuj/Hyderabad on Wednesday. Three others are said to be serious. The entire stock of this vaccine in the state has been withdrawn pending lab tests and measles vaccination in the district has been stopped till further notice.

TSA Admits Bungling of Airport Body-Scanner Radiation TestsThe Transportation Security Administration is re-analyzing the radiation levels of X-ray body scanners installed in airports nationwide, after testing produced dramatically higher-than-expected results.
The TSA, which has deployed at least 500 body scanners to at least 78 airports, said Tuesday the machines meet all safety standards and would remain in operation despite a “calculation error” in safety studies. The flawed results showed radiation levels 10 times higher than expected.
What is solar power? - Poor Richard's Almanack 2010Solar power is a simple, sensible way to boil water and generate electricity (among other things). By contrast, nuclear power and fossil fuels are insane ways to boil water and generate electricity (or anything else).
Nuclear energy is not disaster proof. The reactors need active effort (and a lot of electricity) to cool them down so as to keep them from blowing up in our faces, even while they are being shut down. It is time to think about shutting down *all* nuclear reactors while there is still time to do so. Or should we just wait until the next disaster hits and another one of those things goes critical?- - -
