UK: National Health Service toes European anti-supplement line
The UK's National Health Service is, once again, in the midst of politically motivated reform and restructuring. On 31st May 2011, the NHS published a document entitled Supplements: who needs them? A special report. Promising to, "Make sense of some of the issues surrounding [food supplements], and look at a selection of the evidence on some of the most popular supplements in use today", the report actually signals the official NHS adoption of the European Union's view of food supplements: a 'reform' that has not been trumpeted by anyone within or outside government. Researched and written by Bazian Ltd. – a company with significant links to stories covered in the past by the Alliance for Natural Health – the report is a tissue of half-truths, distortions and omissions that seeks to condition the UK public to accept the effects of several strands of EU legislation as being 'evidence based'.

My comment: Politically motivated anti-nutrition science??? How low will those bureaucrats stoop to please the EU Commission's pharmaceutical cronies?With all the health problems we have, we really need national health offices telling us we should not worry about getting a good supply of proper nutrients!

A new analysis of US poison control center annual report data indicates that there have, in fact, been no deaths whatsoever from vitamins . . . none at all, in the 27 years that such reports have been available.
Dietitians Are Buying Coke's Line: Sugar, Fluoride, Artificial Colors are SAFE for Children!Registered dietitians are now being given formal education by the Coca-Cola Company on how safe its ingredients are.
The credentialing arm of the American Dietetic Association, the Commission on Dietetic Registration, has approved a program created by the The Coca-Cola Company Beverage Institute for Health and Wellness. This covers what it calls "urban myths" about the safety of food ingredients.
"Children's Dietary Recommendations: When Urban Myths, Opinions, Parental Perceptions & Evidence Collide," tells dietitians that fluoride, sugar, artificial colors and nonnutritive sweeteners have been "carefully examined for their effects on children's health, growth, and development."
UK: Research into brain disorders under threat as drug firms pull outA decision by leading drug companies to pull out abruptly from research into brain disorders such as depression and schizophrenia leaves families without hope and will have a huge financial impact on society, senior scientists are warning.
Recent announcements by companies such as UK-based GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca that they no longer intend to research new antidepressant drugs has effectively marked an end to the Prozac era, when leading drug companies vied to produce rival blockbuster pills that would be prescribed by GPs to millions of people with mild to moderate depression.
GSK's chief executive, Andrew Witty, denied last year that the controversy that broke around such pills – including its own Seroxat, which was said to increase the risk of suicidal thoughts in young people – was a factor in the decision.

Video: New Pathogen kills Roundup Ready Plants, AnimalsDespite emphatic warnings by well credentialed experts, and overwhelmingly vehement opposition by the majority of the farming community the USDA and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and therefore President Obama's administration have "fully deregulated genetically engineered alfalfa " which is our predominant feed crop for livestock. The implications of this decision are huge. It is predicted by Dr. Huber in the above video that within only five years there will no longer exist any alfalfa that is not genetically engineered. This is a decision from which there may be no way to turn back, irreversible.
As described by Dr. Huber in the video, in the livestock herds studied to date, infertility rates of 15% have been observed and combined spontaneous abortion+still birth rates as high as 35% are evident in livestock exposed to and infected by this new virus/fungus by Monsanto's roundup ready corn and soy crops. If you are a farmer or rancher, and 50% of your herd is unable to reproduce, very shortly you will no longer have a herd.
Belgium: Protesters Destroy GM Field TrialIn Wetteren, a municipality in the Belgian province of East Flanders, activists succeeded in damaging the GM potatoes being trialled for blight resistance, despite a large contingent of police officers who had been ordered to guard the GM trial. The officers were unable to stop the 300-400 or more peaceful protesters of all ages, who included local people.
A sympathetic farmer was quoted as saying, "They [the GM lobby] talk a lot about farmers, but we are never heard. This type of action strengthens us and seems like the only way forward for consumers and small producers who are independent of powerful interest groups like big agribusiness."
US House of Representatives Moves to Ban Modified SalmonIn a potential blow to the future of the biotech industry, a handful of House lawmakers voted last night to bar the Food and Drug Administration from approving any bioengineered salmon for mass consumption.
The amendment is squarely aimed at preventing the approval of a fast-growing modified salmon developed by AquaBounty Technologies. For years, FDA has considered approving the salmon for limited cultivation in inland tanks, and last fall the agency held public meetings considering the approval, drawing broad public notice.
Toxins From Genetically Modified Plants Found in Women and FetusesThe corn's DNA is equipped with a gene from soil bacteria called Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) that produces the Bt-toxin. It's a pesticide; it breaks open the stomach of certain insects and kills them.
Monsanto and the Environmental Protection Agency swore up and down that it was only insects that would be hurt. The Bt-toxin, they claimed, would be completely destroyed in the human digestive system and not have any impact on all of us trusting corn-eating consumers.
A study just proved them wrong.
Doctors at Sherbrooke University Hospital in Quebec found the corn's Bt-toxin in the blood of pregnant women and their babies, as well as in non-pregnant women.i (Specifically, the toxin was identified in 93% of 30 pregnant women, 80% of umbilical blood in their babies, and 67% of 39 non-pregnant women.)
The European E. Coli Outbreak: The Real StoryThe outbreak could also be related to the use of E. coli in creating new GMO strains: the E. coli bacterium is used by scientists to carry new genes into the organism. In the process, a new form of E. coli could have been created. If this happened (and of course, no one will ever know), it would be more than ironic to blame it on organic agriculture, which struggles to stay free from GMO contamination.
Book: Shaken Baby Syndrome or Vaccine-Induced Encephalitis?
(If you aren't in Australia, here is an Amazon link)In 1971, Norma Guthkelch, retired neurosurgeon, published the first description of Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS). Within the next several years, John Caffey, paediatric radiologist, wrote several articles supporting the SBS theory. Very soon after, when infants were brought into hospital emergency rooms with brain haemorrhages without known accidental explanations such as auto accidents or high distance falls, almost routinely, the haemorrhages have been attributed to SBS or related diagnoses resulting in criminal conviction of parents or caretakers. These and other issues such as inflicted child abuse, non-accidental trauma, failure to protect and other diagnoses are reviewed in this book.
Since the original introduction of the SBS theory, conclusive evidence has emerged proving that these prosecutions have been founded upon tainted medical opinions and fundamentally flawed scientific methodology (i.e. junk science).
It requires little imagination to understand the significant mental pain which parents undergo while grieving over the death of a child, as frequently occurs in these cases. Accusing this parent of murdering their child (with no real evidence) and putting the entire strength of the state behind this accusation is monstrous, when the entire accusation pivots upon facts which are now known to be false. Loss of job, loss of family and community ties follow the accusation.
India: Number of children who die after vaccination has doubled in three yearsImmunisation-associated problems have come to the fore yet again. A Delhi-based report gave the shocking news that the number of children who die soon after being administered vaccine shots more than doubled in the last three years compared with the previous seven years. The information was provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in response to an application under the Right to Information Act, 2005 from Dr. K.V. Babu, a public health activist and a Central Council member of the Indian Medical Association.
The finding is significant inasmuch as the sudden spurt in the number of vaccine-related deaths has happened during a three-year period (2008 to 2010) when three reputed public sector vaccine-manufacturing institutes functioning at Kasauli (Himachal Pradesh), and Coonoor and Chennai (both in Tamil Nadu) had been forced to suspend vaccine production.
The public health establishment ordered the closure of the three public sector undertakings on the ground that the World Health Organisation (WHO) had faulted these units "for not adhering to the compliance of Good [Manufacturing] Practice (cGMP)." Experts averred that cGMP was not related to the quality of the vaccines produced in the three units; it was rather about the infrastructure such as staff strength and air-conditioners.
The concern over the increasing number of deaths among children following vaccination is not confined to India. Many countries have been facing this problem and the governments and the WHO have started addressing the risk factor with a view to enlarging its use among larger sections of children all over the world. Social activists and the media are going all out to mobilise public support for such initiatives.
Japan is a recently affected country. Even before five children were recorded dead soon after vaccination, the government started taking preventive operations. It immediately suspended sale of two branded vaccines manufactured by global corporates based in France and the United States.
It appears, from this story, that in the pharmaceutical world form trumps substance. The regulations on how to manufacture seem to have greater importance than the safety of the vaccines that are produced.
The Truth About Vaccines and Modern MedicineThis site was recently seized by a US government agency, at the behest of the FDA and its pharmaceutical "clients". Apparently the information brought together by an irate father of a girl killed by vaccines was hitting a nerve in what's laughingly called the medical establishment. The site is now back up, at a different address and with a disclaimer forced on the author by said government agency.

detestable… Johnson&Johnson and the Texas Medication Algorithm ProjectThis report addresses many things, but I want to highlight the Tri-University Guidelines published in supplements in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry in 1996 and updated in 1999. These Guidelines were used to create the TMAP Algorithms. The Guidelines were funded by a grant from Johnson & Johnson and not publicly connected to the Texas project. These Guidelines were step one in the process. Here's what the expert who had access to the primary discovery documents had to say about the Tri-University Guidelines:
"As one of its first activities, and in disregard of professional medical ethics of principles of conflict of interest, in 1995 J&J funded a project led by three psychiatrists at three medical centers [Duke, Cornell, and Columbia] to formulate Schizophrenia Practice Guidelines. From the start, the project subverted scientific integrity, appearing to be a purely scientific venture when it was at its core, a marketing venture for Risperdal. In fact, the guidelines produced by this project would become the basis for the TMAP algorithms, giving a market edge to the J&J products in Texas."
